Bane of the Shadow King

Session 2

Carnys, a druidic apprentice to Elgeon, came to meet the band of adventurers in the dark forest bearing a request by Elgeon himself to meet with them. The adventurers accepted to be guided by Carnys, who led them through the forest over the course of 8 hours to a gigantic tree that served as home for Elgeon. During this time Indicus had been in a coma from the venom of the Faery Dragon and was carried by Diffel.

Carnys asked them to stay back as he went to meet with Elgeon. After a few hours passed, he returned, but was taken down by an unknown assailant.

The team quickly healed Carnys and went on the defensive against the unknown threat. Indicus, passed out and at low health, was the next victim. Thanks to Brad's quick thinking who shot a flaming arrow to the tree on which Indicus was resting, the group was able to prevent his shadow from gaining sentience.

With the knowledge of the threat they were facing, they regrouped and defeated the shadow, not without Carnys and Brad both going down and being brought back (Brad with the epicness of Van Halen's Panama playing from his guitar through the shock of the heal).

As they believed their troubles to be over, 20 shadows encircled them, preparing to attack. At that moment Elgeon himself bust through the door of the tree house and cast away the shadows. The session ended with the group following Elgeon into his enchanting room, awaiting explanations.

Session 1

The players met in a dark forest clearing, all having been summoned a different way by Elgeon the Druid. They were surprised by pixies that remained unseen, until shots started being fired into the forest.

After injuring a pixie, they healed it, but without being able to restore its burnt-off wing. It disappeared into the forest and were lost by the adventurers.

A gigantic snake then attack the band and they were forced to fight it, until they realized it was nothing more than an illusion. Fighting an invisible foe, they swung randomly and were able to take down a Faery Dragon that was out to protect the forest they had angered.

DM Ground Rules
  • I am open to contestation over a rule or way I play NPC, but once I make my decision as to whether I keep it or change it, then we move on.
  • It's my first time DMing so I'm obviously going to make mistakes. If you see me heading towards the wrong path or making a mistake story-wise or whichever, please let me make it and give me DMing feedback after the session, because that's how I'm going to learn best. This is mostly for other people who have DMed previously.
  • Any conflict that happens in the session stays in the session, I don't want these to affect out of play relationships
  • I will let you fight over what to do next as players, that's part of the game. I will not let you fight over the rules. I will make a decision and we will move on.
  • This campaign will be story heavy. NPC will be important and fleshed out. I encourage you to role play as much as possible and to really get into your characters, because I will build around your character personalities and interact with them.
  • I will reward creativity and interaction-based achievements. You will be able to obtain just as much or more XP from avoiding conflict as if you were to brawl.
  • I encourage you to go off the tracks and explore the world.
  • I hope I won't need to do this, but I reserve the right to kick you out of the session. I will give one warning before doing so. If I ask you to leave, you are to leave calmly and we will talk about what will happen for the next sessions privately. No one plays without accepting this condition.
Character Creation and Intro Session

The party created their characters and rolled for their stats.

We had a quick intro session to introduce every character, what they were like, their personality and play style.
